About Us
The Institute for Advanced Arabic and Islamic Studies is a privately funded research center located in Antwerp, Belgium. Its main goal is the study of classical Islam and the fundamentals of the Islamic religion. IAAIS provides a research environment in which its library plays an important role. The library contains the major reference works, primary Arabic sources with a focus on the classical period of Islam, though the fields of history and biography are covered up to today.
International scholars as well as advanced PhD students and post-docs are regular guests of IAAIS. Workshops are held at the Institute on particular subjects that deal with its goal, primarily to promote research that lies beyond the mainstream. It is through the approach of the extraordinary — both in method and in theme — that the Institute hopes to realize its goal.
